  • Strange. The US Founders were Protestant. This is a hymn written for British and Irish Catholics to honor their martyrs of the Reformation period.

  • @AnotherCuppaCoffee Valid and correct historical point. I approached this video as I would a sermon...with understanding of the historical context, but interpreting and applying the historical message to a new and fresh context...keeping the same spirit, of course.

  • While i like the video, the song is in reference to the older martyrs of the early church, as well as those martyrs such as Thomas more and John Fisher who died in the English Reformation because of their Catholic Faith (since the song was written by a British Catholic Bishop who wanted to Catholics in britain to remember those who died for their faith). Still great video for those of all faiths

  • This song reminds us of the sacrifices of our fathers in the name of Christianity,be it Catholic or Protestant.

  • Yes this was and is still sung for the faith of all who lead and died in keeping the faith of God alive on this blessed earth. I love what you have done in showing the USA's founding fathers faith for God and how they established and kept Him alive and First in our Government. May 2012 be the Turning Point back to our roots and foundation in God, in Christ, in our Land and in our Homes, may we be blessed in Truth and strengthened in Hope in keeping our trust with Him.

  • I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (August 21), we sang this as our closing hymn. It is #812 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.
