  • @subbu: most if not all these rules are derived from krithis.....if u want a reference for these rules you can find them in the Sangeetha sampradaya pradarshini...guruguha -dot- org has a english translation of this text

  • I have heard these kind of rules where what is "allowed" in one octave is not allowed in another, in other ragas too. I would like to learn about the origin of such rules. Do they derive from the convenience of vocalists (considering the strong vocal tradition of carnatic music)? Can anyone answer this question based on references from some dinosaur era books? -Thanks. Subu
