Having never read the Harry Potter books while hearing so much talk about how they differ from the movies, I thought it would be interesting to watch all eight films in chronological order and then sit down and explain the story of Harry Potter as I understand it. Several days later, I sat down and made this video...
If nothing else, it felt like a fun experiment in finding out what was lost in adaptation and what someone who doesn't read the books might miss.

That was actually pretty good! Now go read them ;D There are a lot of details you didn't mention in your summary but you really covered the basic plot. I clicked on the video thinking "uh oh" but I'm actually pretty impressed.
