Part of the reason ATG squatters won't ever win a World Record in Powerlifiting is because they do a different lift, goals and rules. Comparing Oranges to Grapefruits, similar but not really. ATG squatters and oly lifters don't use suits or wraps and usually not even belts. There are not many PL guys out there that do 800+lbs completely raw. Don't think I have ever seen it in fact.

Mark Rippetoe would have you look down at the ground 4-5 feet in front of you instead of straight ahead or up (like every other coach in the world would have you do). He insists that this activates the most hip drive. A lot of people think this will make you fall forward, but I've been doing it and the weight is evenly distributed on my feet the entire time. I dunno, works for me.

@holymoly1234 I think part of the reason why you don't go below parallel with the low-bar squat is because the point of the low-bar squat is to work the hams, glutes and quads, and going below parallel would put more strain on the back, which you already get plenty of with front squats and the other oly lifts. Rite?

@track400meters1 Generalizing one person to represent an entire population of people who squat ATG is a bit unfair. As for the WR thing, if the WR states that you only have to go parallel, doing more work is a stupid choice if trying for the WR. A pause at the bottom of the squat eliminates inertia. Really shouldn't try to post your opinion as fact but I am on youtube after all.

what no one seems to understand is the concepts of inertia,,, and momentum... ATG for the last freakin time, is easier than a regular full parrallel squat. I just got done seeing someone try an atg, he went below parallel then up to about a quarter squat. This person failed to lock it out. Which goes to show he was using a weight that he couldnt even do a quarter squat in. Thats why you never see an atg squatter holding a squat world record.

I thought ppl only stopped at parallel due to leverage issues. Is there an actual BENEFIT to INTENTIONALLY stopping at parallel even though you can actually go ATG??

@thesix107 Most can lift more weight stopping higher. I squatted ATG for oly lifting but at this time, I wanted to head into PL for a season. A few months later I hit 750 IPF in a loose suit and wraps, age about 21.
