I think it is assumed that John didn't know about it because in saw 6 when hoffman is reading the letter at the end it is in his words during the flashback

pues ami esta escena no me sobraba. Explica el por qué a amanda le dió la venada de matar a adam (cosa que dejo un poco a cuadros a los seguidores de la saga). De hecho quizás explique el por qué tambien mataba a todas sus víctimas sin darles una oportunidad de salvarse, digamos que se sentía perseguida por ellos hasta que no se aseguraba de su muerte. Yo desde luego no la hubiera quitado
