This is officially the first song that I write, record, and post on youtube. Be warned, my singing voice isn't really worth taking out of the shower, and my imagination may have outstripped the physical limitations of my vocal cords in some places. I'm also new to iMovie, so it might be a little choppy here and there. Still, I had an insane amount of fun coming up with and performing this, so no regrets! I'm dedicating it to my sister for the incredible amount of help she didn't give me and because of how completely unrelated this song is to her. Yay Vicky!!! ^_^
Goes a lil like this:
Now gather while I sing you of a story sad but true
Tale of a man who roamed the deserts, living by the open blue
And he rode on through the rusty lands, harsh canyons made of stone
For the wide, long horizon and the valleys were his home
One day travelin' 'cross the pathless earth he found an iron trail
Train tracks lured him to a sea of lights, a bright and shining hell
For the glowing concrete hills entranced his mind, gave him no rest
So many sights, so many wonders, but every soul there was adrift (yes, he was lost)
Long, oh how long has it been since you taste the summer rains
No shining lights can free your mind, only the wind will ease your pain
Ooo-oo-oo-ooh Ooo-ooo-oooh Ooo-ooo-oooh
Sand, open blue, roarin' wind, hear it callin' you again.... oh home again
All day his stomach growled, nothing would quench the flames, he had no place to go
A stranger handed him a scribbled sheet, told him "this is all we know"
Never seen so many signs, so many streets so many walls
Never had a map to use and yet he'd never felt so lost
One day he woke to find he had no face, only a hollow mask
All that remained of grounded roots that anchored him once in days past
For his body had left him, he was just an empty soul
And so he faltered and he faded into the city of ghosts
Long, oh how long has it been since you taste the summer rains
No shining lights can free your mind, only the wind will ease your pain
Ooo-oo-oo-ooh Ooo-ooo-oooh Ooo-ooo-oooh
Sand, open blue, roarin' wind, hear it callin' you again.... oh home again
(Home again)
(Ride on home again!)
(Ride, ride on ho-ome)
(Ride, ride on ho-oooome)
(Awooooooo!)
Chasing the wind
But there's no way back home...
Thanks for listening! In case you're wondering, most of the nature shots I took a few summers ago around the four corners. 'Fraid I didn't have a lot of time to cobble together the slideshow, so I'm not too happy with how the pictures fit the song, but the focus was always the song anyway. Hope you liked it!
ma dude! love the combination of instruments and the rawness of the recording. thanks for sharing :)

I love it! How did you get the cello effect? Just kidding. Are there any instruments you don't know how to play? I love the photo selection and sequence. Sad story, very evocative. I like the bracketing device also, with you donning and doffing that hat. I vote no, no, no to the subtitles; they would render impossible the pure experience of being immersed in the visuals while letting the music and narrative wash over you, and the lyrics are in your notes anyway.
