The Gownus Canal is 10 years and $500 million away from truly being the Venice of Brooklyn. By 2020 the Environmental Protection Agency projects the newly designated Superfund site will be clear of three centuries worth of industrial waste. Mayor Bloomberg has his own plan for cleaning the canal, a plan that includes partnering with developers like Toll Brothers who would like to build residential housing on the banks of the Gowanus. While Gowanus residents are enthusiastic about the clean-up there is concern about how the Superfund designation will impact property values surrounding the canal. Reporter Sonia Moghe took to the canal for this report. From Brooklyn Independent Television's Brooklyn Review, episode 213.
Why wasn't it disclosed that David Lefkowitcz stood to make millions of dollars for selling his property to Toll Brothers to develop? That's a BIG piece of information. Also, fliers he passed out stole the copyrighted whale symbol for Superfund Me. All history now.
