Nickel Creek era formado por três membros, Chris Thile no bandolim, Sara Watkins no violino e o irmão dela Sean Watkins na guitarra. O pai de Chris, Scott Thile tocou baixo com o grupo até 2000, seguido de Byron House e Derek Jones. Mark Schatz tocou baixo regularmente com o grupo desde 2003.
