John Sweeney's last investigation into the Church of Scientology resulted in an explosive confrontation with church officials. This time, in a Panorama Special, one of those officials has turned whistleblower to help him reveal the dark secrets of the church, which boasts Hollywood A-listers Tom Cruise and John Travolta amongst its devotees.

Have you seen scientology's hillarious response? They've paid for google adwords so that some critics get google ads for the cult's "panorama lies lies Lies!!!" propaganda website/video. I advise everyone to see it. It's mental

It might look like they're taking a shit on your living room carpet but two phrases spring to mind:

1) Never interrupt your opponent when they are destroying themselves, and..

They are using Carter-Ruck lawyers in the UK, well known for trying to spike news stories that threaten to expose big organisation's criminal and unethical behaviour.

i think his outburst was perfect, i mean the scientologist was quite obviously really bad at having a constructive argument, so in a way him raising his voice like that is a good way to vent the frustration in way the scientologist will understand. like if you want to communicate with an idiot then speak to him as an idiot. The failure of the reporter was that he represents the public, but the public do not agree with being silly and angry at the same time. I am not "the public", and i liked it

Sweeney is a lightweight and all he is doing is a big long commercial for scientology

I wouldnt be suprised if Sweeney is a double agent - pretending to be against them as a tactic for giving them publicity

It's soooo funny, the church of Scientology have paid for google adwords so that nearly everyone in the UK sees their advert (since panorama was on BBC last night!) What a bunch of crazy people. I think Sweeney was totally right to lose the plot. These people are nuts!

I've always believed that it's better for people to have a religion -any religion, no matter how contrived- because it shows they have an imagination & an inner life. But scientology pushes even my patience. It's as though it was designed specifically to be mocked and mistrusted. Having aliens as prophets? Having Xena Warrior Princess would be less incredulous. Having a very elaborate religion spearheaded by a hack sci-fi author? Couldn't be more contrived. I want to eat their insanity.
