Thank you for this! Winning can be based on quality, cooperation and respect. Instead of cheap, competition and manipulation! What a gift to humanity. Thanks for 1 to 3!

Amen to that Amy!
It still amazes me how many people cannot accept that it really is the answer to so many problems. The turf wars with mgmt & labor cause so many problems for society.

Thanks for the post. I've worked for Toyota Motor Manufacturing for 22 years and this is like second nature. Switch from production to training and development now. Designing a course on PDCA to teach and stumbled onto your videos. Deming was a giant. To bad the good old USA missed the message. I'm afraid most of the country still does.

1986 was a long time ago, and Ford had barely begun to work with Deming by then. They have come a long way since. I should clarify that I have only worked directly with the domestic auto industry and its suppliers. And I would never argue that American cars are (in general) as good as most Japanese cars. In fact, I am driving my third Corolla. When I retired my second one, it had 313,000 miles and had never needed a major repair, and I got $1300 trade-in toward a $10,000 used car.

I was fortunate to spend over a year working with Ford management, contracted to them by my employer to help them develop and pilot the training for the worldwide roll-out of the Ford Production System. I am no longer with that employer and I have no connection to Ford, but I have to say that of dozens of auto industry companies I've seen in operation firsthand, Ford impressed me the most in that all of the managers seemed to be heading in the same direction. Deming sparked that.

Thanks for the post! In my opinion, in this country, greed is what kept these methods out of the market. CEOs are all about looking good for the short term, & then jumping ship to the next company when they show profits from cutting on foundations like education & training quality suppliers etc. The ego of the corporate heads is like a virus, & it appears that no one is immune to it.
No accident that Peterson of Ford Motors is here, & Ford is now competitive with the Japanese.
