Hi, I'm getting 4 of these shortly for canon. Is the cable shutter release shown on your video really necessary? What is the cable's purpose? I intend mounting the transceiver on my camera hotshoe and another receiver on the off camera flash.

I've never messed around with the cable release stuff. The way I think it works is you can use one of the transceivers as a wireless shutter button by triggering another transceiver that is plugged into your camera via the cable.

I just use them as wireless flash triggers like shown in the video and they work very nicely.

The difference in models of the rf 603 is just for the different remote shutter release cords of different camera brands and within brands the specific models
