Nearer, My GOD, To Thee. Hymn Tune: Bethany.

This is my second arrangement of this beautiful and well loved Hymn. I am using Chimes and other Solo Combinations and a key elevation on the last verse.

This Hymn was sung when the Titanic was sinking by the men and boys who were left on board. Usally sung at Funerals and as an Eventide Hymn in many churches.

' It is good for me to draw near to GOD... ' Psalms 73:28

I had the Honor to play this beautiful Hymn at my Mother's Funeral in 1995, it was one of her favorites, there wasn't a dry eye in the Church after the last verse, including me.

  • Fantastic! What kind of organ is this?

  • Thank you - I mention the Organ on my profile page, but for now, it is a Viscount, made in Italy.

  • well im back listening to this yet again. Thank you so much.

I have a question. I have a nice Baldwin here that I mess around with. Im not bas,but Im definitely not you, lol. My question is this, and its related to the fact that I am gettin on; so my funeral is not WAY WAY off in the future. "Would it be inapropriate to record my own music for when the tme comes?"

Given your association with the church, I hope you might be able to guide me in this, because I dont know if that would be right or

  • That is a personal decision you will have to make.

I've played the Organ for thousands of funerals, I am also a Licensed Funeral Director since 1978, this Hymn is requested more than any other and this is the tempo I play it for a funeral.

  • thank you for playing this. And thank you Lord for there being the talent able to create such emotional music

  • You're welcome - my honor †

  • @oledoc65. Thank U. If she hadn't signed her DNR, She would have been living in a vegetative state following the strokes which took her. 15yrs w/o soul mate 4 52yrs really ate away @ her physically and mentally. I'm thankful she's not suffering no more.

  • Wonderful. So nice

     May your Grandmother RIP

  • love love it it

  • Fantastic!

  • Amen

  • This was played @ my Grandma Jane's Funeralin 2006. Everyone was in tears but I found myself singing it strong. I felt I was the only one singing it w/o breaking down. I kept singing it with strength. I felt that God was wanting me to be happy that Grandma was in a better place reunited with Grandpa. I love this song and wish it was played more often instead of just funerals. I love the Chimes since it reminds me of Christmas. Thank U Brother and God Bless.

  • I think this was one of the songs played so often right after 9/11. This year will make ten years. I pray we never have such a tragedy ever again.
