is my s10 filter safe it was made in 1985 by avon ?!? please help
-
@svbummin Ineffective as in "doesn't work" or ineffective as in "Not safe to use, BURN IT!"?
-
@svbummin yea, well how do you know they're ineffective?
-
It has no asbestos at all,you breath in parts of the filter that have disintegrated over time,it's not deadly, but it hurts like hell,so don't use it of you don't want some pain later, just get a fake filter that's not a real one,one that looks like it and make s the same sound when breathing.so basically, that filters not safe,it won't kill you,but it causes respatorry problems.don't use it
-
@DoodooBean What about the so called coffee can filter. Is it safe tobreath?
-
Guys all filters that have not been damaged left outside for a long time not proberly cared for and not from WWII and before should be fine to use and if you wanna be super safe buy from a surpluses shop that knows what there doing
-
ASBEST
-
non come from current lots. they might look good when U get them, but will more than likely develop cracks or pinhole leaks, especialy russian crap. they R considered obsolete for military use. which means that should include civilians. there is no room for error with NBC protection. any reputable site or catalog will say FOR NOVELTY USE ONLY when listing any of those masks.
-
@svbummin atually all the russian, german, and czech are good
-
ok guys am getting a isreali civilian gasmask and i think the filter expired in the 80s or 90s is it safe yes or no and why please answer
-
@DoodooBean thats why i said old filters. it was completely phased out by 56 but found in lots up untill the 60's. and using U vs you allows for more characters in comments - or was that 2 hard 2 figure out
-
@svbummin Use of asbestos in filters was halted in most major countries in the 1950s...
Also, how hard is it to type "you"?
-
@DoodooBean any filter will offer hepa protection, just because U can breath through it doesnt mean shit. go find some chlorine gas. ive seen just how easy old eastern block garbage like that will tear & develop pin-hole leaks. not 2 mention old filters contained blue asbestos & were proven 2 contain lead due 2 improperly refined metals in lots as new as the 80's. if the metal oxidizes U will suffer from respiratory problems. hermetically sealed items dont last 30yrs, & offer no NBC protection
-
Yes, dumbass. It's isn't safe! 2-87 mean that it's special suicide filter!
-
@svbummin Ok they are all ineffective.... that's why I have used my GP-5 for installing insulation, escaping smoke, and other particulates, and to this day it has kept its airtight seal. Obviously they don't have any use whatsoever. >_>
-
@DoodooBean do you need to replace every once in a while
-
I do think that it contains some asbestos. Wikipedia tells there is some in it. I would not call it a reliable source, but it might be worth looking up!
-
is a 44 mm filter safe?
-
The Soviet brown 'coffee can' filter is the one that has asbestos.
-
GTAtomten i wouldnt put it on cause you can die from asbestos like 1 to 2 years later from cancer
You're fine, the Russian 40 mm filters are completely safe.
They contain activated charcoal and cotton.
I do hate how unorganized and confusing the gas mask community is though.
People who know nothing act like they are experts.

@GTAtomten the filter is fine but throw that GP-5 away.
Avoid the following masks as they are all ineffective
Russian M-10, M-41, Russian SMS, M9 or M9A1, M-10-M and GP-5 masks, Canadian M69, Czech M10M, East German masks and the French/Belgian ANP M51 and Hungarian civilian respirator

@svbummin I didn't buy the mask for using it, i would get a brand new mask in that case. I bought this purely because i wanted one.
