MLB rumors and trades have been quiet over the past week or so. Therefore, I have decided to go over all 30 teams, listing their 2009 payroll and where they currently sit in each division. Let me know what you think of the relevance between team rankings and how much money each team pays out each year. Does youth have any factors in team rankings? What about division that a team plays in?

Look for me to cover the 2008 and 2007 season later on this week. Then we can compare those two seasons to this season, 2009.

Here is a list of where each team sits by color:

AMERICAN LEAGUE

East = RED
Central = Orange
West = Blue

NATIONAL LEAGUE

East = Yellow
Central = Purple
West = Black

  • I think a salary cap around $90 - $100 Mill would be pretty smart.

    The video was trying to put into question the fact that money doesnt always make a different (marlines), but in other ways it does... (yankees).

    Also looking at the fact that teams like the D-Rays have younger players.. quality first overall picks for a few years.... now after a few years of maturing they turned a low payroll team into a serious contender!

  • yeah, put a salary cap on all teams and enforce revenue sharing or MLB will eventually sink as zero sum is not a viable long term survival strategy.
