I run a ProTools HD 2 system on a Dell Precision 690 and it doesnt have a problem at all. Never crashes...and runs the HD system just fine.

If you're going to do audio or video...mac is the ONLY way to go. I'm afraid that when it comes to audio production, you get what you pay for.
