Another one of my personal favorite songs.
I decided to use the virtual Prophet 5 synthesizer (as well as the typical Roland, Moog, and Oberheim virtual team) and create a dark haunting 6:10 song in D minor.

I snuck some "Under Pressure" riffs starting at 2:43. Sorry Freddie, Brian, Roger, John, and David!
(At least I'm admitting that I'm using the riff--unlike a certain white rapper)...

Type &fmt=18 for stereo sound

  • Not bad

What specific virtual synths are you using ? also where did the drums come from, some analog drum emulation !?

I wish to learn from you. Hope I am not asking too many questions

  • You are NOT asking too many questions. LOL!

I'm using virtual versions of the Prophet 5, Roland Jupiter 8, Oberheim OBX, and a Moog/ARP clone. The drums are a preset in GarageBand called "Hip Hop Kit" (which emulates the "Roland TR-808)". I put the drums through a chorus and phaser effect to give it a "spacey sound." The electric piano sound was programmed by me, and put through a phaser.

    Thanks for the compliments!

  • Your immediate response is appreciated.

I think you have something special in the sounds you create. They are finished, mixed to a good level and especially in stereo, present a very polished image of your intentions.

I'll be watching your progress as you evolve.

Will also bounce some sound ideas off you.

I recognise that quality rather than quantity is your priority and I certainly identify with that.

    Bye for now

  • Thanks! I'm welcome to all ideas. You are correct, I'd rather spent more time on the quality of the song (and use up more time), rather than rush out and put a half-hearted song out.

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks!

  • Yes, well you certainly have the potential for it. Keep up the brilliant work.

  • I could play my OWN stuff on pianos and organs. lol. But the problem is I use SO MANY DIFFERENT synth effects and OVERDUBBING some of the stuff may sound "empty," "thin," etc.

  • Oh I see. I understand that. Well you compose some pretty cool music for sure! Just thought it would be interesting to hear this on Grand piano or Hammond organ. Maybe you could get that sound from your synthesizer perhaps.

  • To be honest, I'm not that good of a keyboard player. I mean I'll use a piano (occasionally an organ) to "write out" songs--then play them on synthesizers to achieve the sound I need.

I'm more of a "Composer" rather than a "Keyboard Player." If you catch my drift.

  • Well I agree with you! And not all the old stuff is good either! You have to look in the right places I guess. But today music is sold out completely, its sad. Have you ever tired playing Hammond organ or Grand piano? Just think you might be good on those since you are so good on the electronic keyboards.

  • Because MOST music is CRAP! (Well not the old stuff)

I just like writing electronic music.

  • Welcome, very unique. You don't here this kind of stuff anymore.

  • I appreciate the compliment!

    Thanks!

  • Pretty cool! Reminds me a lot of ELP.

  • I really like it! I wish that i COULD PLAY ONE! I AM ON MY STREAM!

  • two days left till halloween ^^

    sounds cool and pretty dark
