December 2001 the Argentine economy collapses under the weight of $150 billion debt to the IMF. Over a million people rise up in fury & overthrow the government. As the crisis deepens popular assemblies form in every neighbourhood. Demonstrations and direct actions are a daily event. Unemployed workers block the roads, as the cry goes up, " Get Rid Of Them All!"

  • hey,.. great edits.

seems like you could use some de-interlacing. That's why you're getting all those lines on your slow motion clips.

Where'd you get all this footage by the way?

  • hi, thanx for your comments.

'Argentina In Revolt' was made at speed by London based video activists in collaboration with activists in Buenos Aires, inc. 'Indymedia Argentina'.

A full list of credits can be seen at the end of the last clip.

Much of the footage of interviews & piqueteros actions etc. was filmed by Shaun Dey, who's now involved with 'Reel News' (find them on myspace)

The video was edited by myself on FCP on a G4 Mac.

At some point I will re-upload the clips at a better quality!

  • why do u play caribbean music in an argentine vid?

  • @fish2512

Ex-Magia Animal, Dr. No, and Ojos de Brujo, Macaco (Dani Carbonell) joined La Hermandad Chirusa, a band formed by talented musicians from Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, and Spain, to make his first solo record which mixes a variety of styles.

The track used is S.O.S. & seemed appropriate...

  • @mrsheernylon EL IDIOTA SOS VOS, Y TAMBIEN CABEZON.

  • @mrsheernylon Peor que antes decis ? Te acordas de los Patacones ? Lecops ?

  • @ronch0

The video was made immediately after the uprising, and followed the unfolding events in the following few months. It was made at speed, with no budget & a lot of goodwill from those involved, who thought it was important that the story of the Argentinian peoples struggle was represented as part of a global anti-capitalist movement that we had seen in Seattle, Washington, Melbourne, Prague & then Argentina, previously the 'richest' country in S.America.

  • @ronch0

I could re-upload in a slightly better quality & will soon, but as you can see some of the footage was filmed in extreme circumstances and on old, unwieldy VHS cameras. Some of the camera operators were risking their lives when they got some of the incredible shots, particularly in this opening part of the film. As you see armed police in armoured cars & on horseback are very close to the camera.

Other footage was taken by 'video activists' on small single chip digital camcorders.
