Matthew Wayne Shepard (December 1, 1976 -- October 12, 1998) was a gay American student at the University of Wyoming who was fatally attacked near Laramie on the night of October 6 -- October 7, 1998. Shepard died from severe head injuries at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado, on October 12, 1998. His murder brought national attention to the issue of hate crime legislation at the state and federal levels.
His two assailants, Russell Arthur Henderson and Aaron James McKinney, were convicted of the crime and imprisoned. Henderson is currently serving two consecutive life sentences and McKinney is serving the same but without the possibility of parole.
This is just aweful... how could someone do this!? Matthew Shepard was KILLED because he was just a little different, because he was GAY. big woopdy freaking doo, thats NO reason to kill him! This is for you, Matthew, Im sorry.

This is so sad, I'm truly sorry for the family.....those two guys that did this should be put on death roll in jail. They don't deserve to be in this wonderful world. They deserve death penalty. Im sorry but I really never liked prison death penalty on no one, but these two assholes need that death penalty. Im sorry but this is my opinion

This is messed up.How could someone do this that's so horrible.Just 'cause he was Gay.Everyone is diffrent in there own way and we should not judge them.Even if they are Gay who cares if someone is Gay Lesbian or whatever we have no right to judge them.Also "God hate's Faggs" wtf is that about Jesus loves all his children,So what are they talking about.

I remember this story from a some time ago and it still makes me sad. He didn't deserve what happened to him. Hopefully the ones that caused his death will endure great pain and suffering.

It just makes me feel so incredibly sick to know we live in a world where people can do such cruel things to each other. I just want to cry. But, it also makes me want to stick up for what I believe is right. If I die trying, I would be okay with that because at least I tried. While what happened to Matthew Shepard was terrible in so many ways, I hope people learn from it and I hope that Matt, wherever he may be, knows that he has helped more people then he could have imagined. He is a hero.
