Final Fantasy 7 - Barret and Vincent overflow glitch guide!!

So i've seen people ask time and time again, how do you do the damage overflow glitch? Well, i took it upon myself to try and answer ALL the questions related to the glitch! I tried to make it as accurate as possible so feel free to correct me with comments, or send me any other suggestions! I'll happily give you credit in the video description if you have some good ideas! Here are a few Q&A i didn't get to cover in the video itself.

1. Why does this glitch happen?
Now, i'm not 100% sure on this but here's my theory. For some reason, the damage that Barret and Vincent can do keeps going up past what the game is supposed to allow. And for some other reason, Hero drinks actually still increase their damage! Since the game doesn't recognize why they can do so much damage, it solves the problem by simply killing the monster you are hitting because it has no other solution. Again thats my just my theory so please let me know if there is a more accurate explanation.

2. What is the W-item glitch?
The w-item glitch allows you to duplicate items over and over that can be used in battle. So you select the first item and assign it against an ememy/friend, select the next item cancel, select again, cancel repeat. As you keep selecting and canceling the second item you'll notice the count for that item rising. This glitch makes mastering your KOTR much easier because you never have to hunt for elixirs which is much too tedious. And of course you need these elixirs for feeding to the magic pots as they give you tons of AP.

3. Whoa! How come you can keep getting the elixir over and over in the glacier area??
I have no idea honestly. Just for some reason you can move when the "received elixir" screen comes up. More than likely its just another one of the 100's of bugs found throughout FF7. But i'd like to think that this was intentionally designed to help get your infinite elixirs to feed to the magic pots. Hell, the w-item glitch may have been intentional as well for all we know. Maybe someone at square had the forsight to see what a great benefit it would be in materia mastering. But if you picked this elixir up on your first visit to this area and hit X that second time then the elixir is lost forever =(. if you don't have w-item either then you'll be stuck getting elixirs the old fashioned way. I know you can steal them from the tonberrys in sephiroths cave. As well as from one of those guys that always appear together in the magic pot section.

3. Why do hero drinks help make the glitch happen?
Again, not too sure on this one but hero drinks raise your attack power and possibly other stats. It raises the already high kill count on vincent if his kill count is not maxed, and it raises Barret's strength even higher than what his Missing score can hold. Which is the 8 KOTR. This strength boost is just enough to push over into glitch territory

4. I saw your chocobuckle guide and wonder why in this video you go back to bone village to level up the kill count?
Well, for the chocobuckle guide i just went there because thats where i've gone to work on kill count. Plus the hook you get cloud stuck on with turbo controller is safe. IN this case i a much better reason. In this area you run into battles with 4 or 5 monsters at a time. Never any less than 4 monsters so this is THE best place to fight the most amount of monsters constantly. As far as i know there is no othe rplace in the game that has at least 4 or 5 monsters in EVERY battle. If you know of a better place, by all means let me know!

5. Why haven't you gotten Vincent's glitch without hero drinks yet?
Well, when i started this process i was at my in laws and they constantly had horrible thunderstorms going on. So i'd leave my PS2 on for days at a time killing monsters and then the power would go out and i'd lose days of work. I'd save every now and then, but most of the time it was running while i was not at home. I eventually got discouraged and just gave it up. But i think i'll pick it back up now!

According to ADAMTHEAMAZI here is the reason for the overflow glitch;

65536 is a magic number in bounds of computing. Thats why in the old Excel before 2007, the last cell number was 65536, check if you don't believe me. Its all in the binary.

1 - 2 - 4 - 8 - 16 - 32 - 64 - 128 - 256 - 512 - 1028 - 2048 - 4096 - 8192 - 16384 - 32768 - 65536

That is why Vincent overflows at that specific kill count, its binary :)

yea uhh on the northern cave to kill the magic pots do u have to give ur team rune bangles and triple ap weapons so you'll get the kotrs up cause i got 1 more kotr to 1 star.

@Eddygangsta330 well the rune bangles and triple ap weapons just speed things up significantly. you dont have to use them though

how du u get a turbo and where du u get it?

@Viktor13036 I believe it still counts at the battle square, but You'd be better off fightin the monsters at the Lost City where 4 or 5 monsters show up all the time.

Question: Can I trigger Vincent's Overflow glitch by having him compete in the Battle Square or does it have to be actual world battles?

The reason why the damage goes up in for them is because Vincent ultimate weapon goes up as he kill more. And Barret does the same thing but you need more AP in your materia customization. 2,500,000 or less is the total.
