Just like Jaya1Lakshmi said, the hunter isn't developed beyond being a very evil man. He obviously doesn't care, that tthe animals have become more human-like. He still just sees them as animals, with which he can do whatever he likes. This show also takes place in the 1930s, when there still weren't any laws against big game hunting.
