I still can't figure out (from the literature) what modes are available (e.g. 720p? 1080i?) the manual doesn't even say and some website claims '60fps', which can't even be produced by PAL...

Am not quite sure what the settings are, but the camera only specifies, XP 720P, and UXP 1080P at 24 FPS.

I think they mean 60i?

I do believe it supports 60i but it also support theater mode @ 24 FPS at full settings 1080P

How do i set my camera to record in 1080p?
