I was there too, also by means of a free ticket.. I agree about the venue. Opera house is never very good for Jazz gigs that need to be intimate. Even James Muller didn't sound as good as he normally does.
This song however was AMAZING. The sax solo was incredible, made the night for me.
While I agree that the gig was disappointing, you've gotta cut Charlie Haden some slack. I mean, he is like 80....
