Marriage is a human right and should not be a heterosexual privilege, Ed passed away and they still were not able to get married, why can't anybody see that we are not asking for any special treatment, all we ask is to be equal.
this is so sad! No matter what sexual orientation, you should be able to marry whoever you want. It's unfair. Gays and straights are the same, it's just how we view each other that makes all the difference. And then there's those few people that think their view is right, and everybody else that is different needs to be destroyed. This world needs to shape up NOW. Derence, Ed, I really hope to see the day you two can marry happily
@HecklerBoy7 Even with "civil unions," they won't be guaranteed everything that a marriage calls for, let alone what civil unions call for. It's not just the word marriage. In fact, many gay people have been denied rights that were supposed to be guaranteed with civil unions. That said, I believe people should be given the right to acknowledge their lover as not their "partner," but their "husband" or "wife."
Nobody is stopping them from being together and committing to one another. It's just that they want to call it marriage. Well that's not something I'm against if they do, but I don't see the problem. It's like they want the word sooo badly. What does it matter if they get the exact same thing, yet call it a civil union? What's the difference? It's like a bunch of guys advocating changing the name of 'mens' locker room to the 'women's locker room.
Shesh..they don't need to get married to get a power of attorney for Derence. I know many gay couples and couples living together that have done this. Ed just needs to hop to it and get it done, then no one can say who can visit him, what can be done as to his medical care etc etc as it would be laid out.
@HecklerBoy7 Emotionally... NO ONE. Legally, the government and the state where they live. They have been together for 40 yrs and Ed is sick. If Ed needs to go to the hospital, Derence could be denied visitation. If important decisions need to be made, Derence may be denied the decision maker even though I am sure they've discussed Ed's wants. That's just for starters. There are a whole lot of legal issues that straight couples are privy and gays are denied.
