Aurthur didn't start the hippie scene. His ego was talking there. Hendrix was so good because he listened not only to Beck, but to everybody and everything. He wasn't concerned about credit, only about the music. Hell, he even listened to Chinese music, geese, babies crying, orchas,' dolphins, you name it, he listened. Then he played what he heard. Arthur and Beck were good however, Hendrix was an alchemist of the 1st order. He can be placed with Paracelsus.

Arthur Lee, a wonderful musician, but he claimed to have started the whole hippie scene! Jimi was more humble, and as unique as he was, always liked to give credit to others, so it should be pointed out that Jimi had already been influenced by Jeff Beck with The Yardbirds before he even went to England to form The Experience .. their influence(esp. the Having A Rave-up album) cannot be overestimated.

When you look up to someone, like Jimi Hendrix did to Arthur Lee, you tend to emulate them. You want to be just like them!

That's what musicians do my friend. That's a sad truth of innovation.

After Hendrix, every guitarist in rock ripped Jimi off. Even now, guitarists are still wasting their time trying to learn Hendrix's licks. Trower, Beck, Page, SRV, and the list is virtually endless to this day, of players' futile attemps to be as good. It'll never happen in this world.
