www.smarttinc.com presents . . . This layout depicts the popular Steam to Diesel transition era of the late 1940s to 1950s. The theme is the Pacific Northwest from Washington State to Minnesota, showcasing the Fallen Flags of the Great Northern, Western Pacific, and Northern Pacific Railroads.

From a large central Railroad yard and locomotive servicing facility overlooked by a lengthy urban scene, to distant travel over several rivers up into the rugged mountains, this layout is a visual treat! With numerous tunnels, a great logging scene, and a rural harbor that brings back memories of days gone by, this feature-laden display has a complex and exciting feel, yet provides easy and enjoyable operation for one or more.

  • wow i wish i had that set

  • @AlexBigMac We can build one for you, but it is a serious commitment.

  • @SMARTTinc Would you ever build a layout that was out of the ordinary? I was thinking of building a layout based on the dystopian video game world of Half Life 2.

Look it up, 'Razor Train' and 'Half Life 2' on YouTube.

The trains would be mostly Soviet era passenger trains and Razors

Some details I was thinking of; Eastern European architecture, abandoned industrial complexes, toxic waste pools and canals, zombies, collapsed highways and bridges, dried out shorelines, lots and lots of garbage.

  • @olmecbones I think doing a layout based on a fantasy world would be a great project. We would certainly take on any project a client was willing to pay to commission us to build. There are a number of great fantasy ideas that could be the basis for incredible layouts, like the Harry Potter-verse, Polar Express, or any number of other universes that could have trains running through them. If the client will pay to build it, we will do the building!

  • can i run dcc train on a dc layout

  • @jackisgone4ever Certain DCC locomotives are designed to have an option whereby they can run on a conventional DC layout. Otherwise, DCC-only locomotives need that special coded signal provided by the DCC system to operate. The signal tells the locomotive what to do.

  • I subbed you. I'm starting myOn30 layout.

  • @olmecbones I'd love to see a layout like this.

  • i prefer watching steam loco's than diesels or electrics, gives more of a model railroad feeling... makes ya feel like a kid again...

  • @RandomThoughtChanger

That's exactly the idea. Most of our clients have been collecting motive power, rolling stock, and accessories for years, hoping they would eventually find the time and/or the skill to do the job themselves, but at a certain point realized that life is just too complicated to do everything. At that point they turn to us to help turn their dreams into reality. Other clients have built and rebuilt their layout over the years but have never quite gotten it just right.
