Demolition of Waukesha gas station

The 1929 Tudor Revival house-style gas station at the corner of Broadway and Hartwell that was the focus of a battle over its landmark status was torn down on Monday, Dec. 19. The station was purchased in May of 2010 by the Waukesha Family YMCA to provide room for a future project. The station was granted landmark status shortly after, preventing demolition for a housing project for people with disabilities. The landmark status was removed in November, 2011, allowing for demolition.
