innerzone orchestra (carl craig) with a track called 'bug in the bass bin' (1996) enjoy!!

The preserve for jazz-oriented recordings by Detroit techno auteur Carl Craig, Innerzone Orchestra first came together in the early '90s to record one of the most respected singles of Craig's career, "Bug in the Bassbin," for his own Planet E Recordings. With Craig on programming, and a group including percussionist Francisco Mora Catlett (a former pupil of Max Roach and member of Sun Ra's Arkestra, plus a leader on his own for Capitol), keyboard player Craig Taborn (a member of the James Carter Quartet, as well as a sideman with the Art Ensemble of Chicago and Dave Holland), and Rodney Whitaker on upright bass, the band played only scattered dates during the mid-'90s while Craig recorded under his own name. Innerzone Orchestra finally hit the studio in 1999, recording their full-length debut Programmed for Astralwerks. Live dates, including New York's Central Park SummerStage, followed later that year. Craig also set up a new jazz subsidiary of Planet E named Community Projects, with Catlett contributing the first release, his own World Trade Music LP.

  • i've always assumed this was supposed to be played at 45?... o_O

maybe i've been playing it at the wrong speed lol

  • @droppenkiken holy fuck, just tried it and it's dope. cheers for heads up!

  • There was a band version of the Innerzone Orchestra that included a former drummer for Sun Ra - I saw them twice in SF - they were excellent. They put out one album

  • @droppenkiken

Check my channel for a pitched-up version.

  • @jayshiz what horns, man? theres no horns in there.. although there should have been. great track but well i sort of expected a little more after i read this was like the breakthrough in electronics plus live impro... anyway, its good but theres sort of like something missing. am i wrong?

  • That beat, those horns. MASSIVE

  • @ Fuck the Dirtbombs. You can't cover Strings of Life.

  • Love it. But mind you this is a sort of low frequency test for your sound system. On mine very hard to hear the last couple of bass notes... That's why, bug in the bass bin. I do not have a bass bin :-)

  • The dirtbombs just did a cover on this for Party Store. A covers album of obscure Detroit Techno music. Their cover sounds nothing like this... just curious what the fans think of the remake.

    see soundcloud

  • this still is the sound of the future
