Back in 2001; my old Triumph TR7 with a fairly standard 3.5 Rover V8 versus a rather sluggish Sunbeam Lotus. The TR was worth about £1500, and consistently ran 15 second quarters. Loved it to bits!

  • A standard 150 break rover block ways about the same as a ford pinto engine as it s aluminium, the old Vauxhall side-valve the Lotus engine is based on was significantly heavier..... Its all down to power to weight ratios! OK so the Sunbeam is lighter overall, but the weight distribution with the lighter engine in the TR7 V8 would put the power down better. (Either would s***t on a stock FWD the same horse power)

  • A matter of conjecture Sunbeam Lotus Vs Lotus Sunbeam it would depend on weather your talking to a Chrysler or a Lotus enthusiast, it had been known as either.

  • And that TR didn't sound stock to me.

If both are standard, they're both around 150bhp so you wouldn't have pulled away that quick, sorry.

  • That's a Sunbeam Lotus, not a Lotus Sunbeam.
