The point of the shoulder goes pretty much straight up right from the first point in the downswing, though, except for maybe a fractional lateral move that corresponds with shifting the axis from right leg to left (not as pronounced in Hogan's swing as in some, because of how much he stayed on the inside of the right foot, even being accused of a "reverse pivot" by some ppl). Shoulder has to come up simply because the plane of the shoulders is necessarily inclined if the spine is tilted.
