http://IRockJazz.com IRockJazz caught Roy Hargrove in Chicago, and he discusses the importance of music in his life, his roots, and inspiration for his music. In this clip, Roy says it isn't about having a job or making money, you have to put more into it then that, and if you do, the music will take care of you.

  • What is the name of the song at the beginning?!!!?

  • @1lildrummerboy: It's called Strasbourg Saint- Denis

  • @pzcato. If that is the case, that information is probably personal to Roy. If he wants you to know, he'll let you know. In the mean time, enjoy the music! On an unrelated note, I sure hope Roy records a new album soon, I got to see the quintet in Chicago and they were phenomenal.

  • "art is the mirror of society", Roy - true artist!!

  • Saw Roy last week at the Blue Note. He felt every note he gave the audience, the set was varied and really interesting. Band was killing. Obviously his life, his love. And a really nice guy, too.

  • Are you sure he's having health issues because of his kidneys? Isn't it because of the heroin he's doing?

  • I didn't Know Steve Urkel is a Jazzman lol :D

  • @pzcato It was something with his kidneys and now it's believable. He looks like Gary Coleman a bit... Roy's been on dialysis lately.

  • @jazzylover59 Do you know which health issues he's having? I'm very curious

  • Roy ... absolute truth, in his words and in his music.

  • Nice interview, great explanation of what a musician is! Nice also would be to quote Larry Willis at the beginning of the video, sthg like "Roy Hargrove quoting Larry Willis"... Thanks!
