How to trouble shoot an electrical short takes a little know how. Where should you start & how do you go about trouble shooting an electrical short? Is it possible to know where & how to go about tracing & trouble shooting the electrical short in the circuit? I'll just call an electrician & pay the big bucks to have them trouble shoot the circuit so they can tell me where the short is so they can charge me who knows how much to fix the circuit since I don't know how to trouble shoot the short myself........stop thinking like that! Watch "joe" & let him save you some money. Maybe you "can" do it yourself.

  • You don't have to go buy another breaker. Swap two of them and see if the problem moves with the breaker. Eliminate variables. Be systematic. Gee whiz. :-)

  • @uselesskrill That's a great idea to switch out another breaker to see if the problem will still exist, before spending the money to purchase a new breaker. I'll let VideoJoe Know about this for next time!! Thanks for your comments. Joe :0

  • you can't take anybody that stands on the top step of a ladder seriously. If there is a short yu can probably find evidence of it. look for black dust on the inside of the outlet covers and switch covers make sure the ground wire isn't in close proximity to the screws on the outlets and switches check for a reading with your ohm meter, There could be a screw or nail penetrating the insulation of the romex check for shorts to ground on the conductors and check to neutral as well. .
