If i remember rightly the then Government wouldn't allow GNER to re-bid when its franchise came up for renewal as its parent company was in financial difficulty. The decision to give the franchise to NX was flawed, based upon NX's massively exaggerated passenger figures forecast. The Government then had to re-nationalise the East Coast Mainline. A total mess up.

Love this - great timing with the music..esp the "can you hear that sound" line!!!
Miss GNER, but having just travelled on East Coast's new First Class from Edinburgh to York it's not too shabby.... That and the new timetable...4 hours to London on the Flying Scotsman.
ECML has to be most emotional line in the UK...

shame. i miss gner at york nrm, standing on the balcony watching them come and go. shame. i say GNER are one of the BEST companys ever. BRING THEM BACK!!!!!
