Cryo's highly original adventure/strategy hybrid based on Frank Herbert's sci-fi epic delivers what is without a doubt one of the most unforgettable gaming experiences I know about. Assuming the role of Paul Atreides, the player travels around Arrakis making alliances, ordering troops and getting equipment while learning more about the mysterious planet and its native inhabitants. In purely technical terms, this 1992 release is quite amazing; featuring advanced pre-rendered 3D sequences, beautiful 2D graphics, a fantastic soundtrack by Stéphane Picq and extensive, high quality voice acting.

This clip includes a short segment of the intro sequence and quite a few minutes from the early part of the game.

  • An extremely easy game, but so well designed that it stands the test of time.

    The game is a bit like an old LucasArts adventure mixed with Total War.

  • @SamusDrake "Easy" is just about the *last* word I'd use to describe the rather unforgiving strategy element in the game (which I've never been able to finish), but since there's not much actual depth to it I guess there must be some easily exploitable trick which virtually guarantees victory.

  • @Demiath You probably missed something important. I almost finished it when I was like 9, barely knowing any english. Then I finished it very quickly when I was 17.

  • @turusan02 I'm probably stupid, then. Tried the game at different times during my life and got stuck as horribly every time. I will always associate Dune with arbitrary and brutal difficulty spikes.

  • Yes, because when I walk up to my mom/dad they state their name and tell me their my mom/dad. xD

  • Ah, but that's perfectly normal in science fiction land.

    "Luke, I am your father!"

    It took me about a week to figure out Dune. The one that makes it super-easy is figuring out how much spice to send to the Emperor...

    50% more than what he asks for. You get lot longer until his next demand, and you still have a decent amount of spice.

    With attacking Fortresses - keep motivation high by keeping in contact with troopes, and working towards Ecology. Definitely use Gurney Halleck to train them as well. Plant ecology under Harkonnen fortresses. Save before attacking!

  • @miika2k Man, I hear what you're saying! The nostalgia...

  • Language --> Fremen

  • The ornithopter Travel music sent shivers down my spine. Memories..

  • @SilverMcdowell1992 Forget that, I just watched the rest. The dialouge is awful, but I can see that they'd want to keep people from being confused. Nevertheless, I find it funny how everything is explained like Paul fell on his head and lost his memory.
