Jean by herself is one of the most powerful telepaths, along Professor, Emma and Sinister, she can even phisically hurt people through her psionic abilities. She is also more than capable at telekinesis and can generate fire through molecule acceleration.

With the Phoenix all of those powers are tremendously enhanced lifting objects that weight tons and generating cosmic fire underwater. She is the true host of the Phoenix force and can manipulate time at will. She IS the most powerful mutant

Easiest way to explain the Jean Grey/Phoenix debate going on:

Jean, by herself, is not very powerful. Actually, she seemed to be the Damsel In Distress most of the time. Phoenix, however, is ultra-powerful, but only makes rare appearances. So Jean isn't the most powerful character, but Phoenix is.

(I still vote for Wanda though.)

Love this video, love Jean. And to all the questioning people, it is pretty much wildly accepted canon fact that Jean is at the very least the most powerful mutant in the Evolution series if not in the entire X Men universe.
