Vintage footage of the production of the Trabant at VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau, showing end of line adjustment and testing procedures. The Trabant was an intentionally labour intensive car, with a total production run of little over three million units in 34 years and for the customer, an average waiting time of 15 years.

  • But where was the quality control?? ;-)

  • @Skoda130 I think he's at 1:30, altough everybody knows that a Trabant was so mell wade from the start it didnt need much QC ;)

  • @HB45175 LOL.. But still, despite all, it has it's charm. I actually own a 601 Universal. (The "station" version.) It's good fun on the country roads, and the suspension handles the sometimes bad road quality very well. :-) But i must say I'm glad I don;t have to depend on it. But it's a nice funcar.

  • @Skoda130 Indeed I think these cars, for all their faults, had more "soul" than modern cars.

  • Quite impressive, but why don't build the car properly in the first place so it woun't need all this tweaks with hammer?

  • @Shevabestfan Do you know the difference between a Jehovah's Witness and a Trabant?

Answer: You can shut the door on a Jehovah's Witness!

I suppose they weren't that bad (maybe they were) but building them properly wasn't in the five year plan and if they did it wouldnt require as many workers, and that would be bad. But to be fair, even 21th century €40 000-cars needs hammer and file adjustment, infact that used to be my job. It's quite fun to hammer at cars and get paid for it.

  • @Shukria123 Hostile to whom? We are a nation with corrupt politicians and people stupid - and weak - enough to let them stay in charge. Our government wants to take no responsibility for anything unless somebody else does it first. Germany is not at war with anyone. Can't see much hostility there.

If your talking about the general populus, I believe we have come a long way since the Cold War. The people are very open minded and friendly as long as you thread them with respect.

  • beware, East Germans

after the Wall comes down, changing winds will blow cold and hostile...

  • 3:09 Are you serious ?? He just kicked into the grill :)

  • 2:00 what the fuck is he doing???? He acts like a robot...
