  • @doctorrin exactly.

  • @MrTheKatalyst Fact is socialism heirchy is this people > govt > market. Capitalism left alone DEPENDS on exploitation. Inequality lies within the definition of the word. In this system there always ends up being a bottom heavy "have-not" population and an oligarchy at the top that controls a majority of goods and services offered to the have nots. Over time capitalism always ends up as corporatism/oligarchy no matter which way u slice it.

  • @MrTheKatalyst As for measures, lobbying needs to be prohibited (like it's like in many European countries), Washington insiders should be severely punished, the military complex needs drastic cuts, among other measures, which would reduce significantly the government's size. Then the anti-trust laws need to be changed, because in the current system a few corporations can create oligopolies and have too much power in an industry. These 2 type of measures are important, not just reducing gov.

  • @MrTheKatalyst The "kind of monopoly" you say that we can't have, is the monopoly economists talk about. And those corporations can have a great influence in price and output of an industry, as well as on competition. Yes they can't completely shut down other competitors, but they can still influence the prices and output in their industry.

I agree that the government and the political system significantly contribute to corporatism, but we can't just say it's only their fault, because it's not.

  • @TradingTutor Also, Monopoly as a rule of thumb is pretty black and white. You either are or you aren't. You can't have "kind of" monopolies, as the definition of a Monopoly is the total ownership and control of a particular Industry. Sure, we have plenty of large corporations that are fairly close, but even those super corporations (Viacom, for example) don't have the ability to completely shut down other competitors, though they have been trying to push legislation to allow them to do so.

  • @TradingTutor And that problem is a direct result of government intervention in the economy. To be fair, Ron Paul isn't completely against government safety nets, he is not looking to abolish Social Security, just reduce it by a large magnitude, but the amount of government involvement in the economy (Usually to benefit certain corporations over others, ie bailouts) is the main reason our "capitalism" has failed. We haven't been a truly Capitalist country for a LONG time.

  • @MrTheKatalyst That may be the only pure monopoly that ever existed in US, but I wasn't referring to such extreme monopolies. A monopoly is a situation where a corporation can set the prices and can prevent other corporations from entering the business. This type of monopoly is common in US's economy, because many corporations control a great share of their market. The 500 top companies have been getting more and more market share over the years, which is very harmful to the economy.

  • @doctorrin Socialism is anti-capitalist, so the two should never be used in relation to eachother. As Ron Paul says over and over, the reason Capitalism goes wrong and turns into Corporatism is a direct cause of the government feeling the need to dip their hands into the economy. The minute the government offers their "assistance" in the economy is the same minute that corporations see the open door to corporatism and the marriage between corporations/government.

  • @TradingTutor The only monopolies that ever existed in the United States were government sanctioned, ala AT&T because the government decided to act like (key word act) without a monopoly on communication services, our communications would be bad or something. The only reason ANY corporations have ever had the unfair advantage of monopolizing was because of government support. The government is the only power in the US with a monopoly on FORCE, so marrying that with corporations is bad.

  • @robertbutler714 If he does become President and the Corporatists hate him as much as they did JFK, you may become a valuable body guard for this man.

Keep it up Ron, your message IS being heard despite the corporate smear campaigns.
