Day One - Arrival! Living in Ueno, wandering Akihabara & Shinjuku at night!

Finally, I escape to Japan!

I get on the plane at 1:45pm, July 23rd Vancouver time, and arrived at Narita Airport, Japan, at 3:45pm July 24th Tokyo time. The flight took 10 hours, but I don't remember most of it because I slept through it.

Took the Narita Express train from Narita Airport to Tokyo, then the Yamanote line to Ueno. Walked 10 minutes to my hostel, unloaded my bags, showered, and went back out for some dinner.

After a delicious ramen dinner (awkward because I didn't know the customs, but I'll come with time) I caught the train to Akihabara, or the "Electric City". Lots of cellphones, cameras, laptops etc for sale! Also had a huge building called the Big Apple, which is a multi-storey building for Pachinko.

Then I took a train to Shinjuku where I spent the rest of my night just wandering the streets back and forth and looking through the shops. Most of them were closed except for the vending machine ones, and more Pachinko buildings. Most restaurants were still open at 11pm. I got home early because I didn't want to catch the last train... I heard it would be extremely crowded.

Showered again, I might go downstairs from my hostel room and hang out in the lounge, or maybe go eat some more... I don't feel like sleeping yet.

Oak Hotel on Asakusa street, a 10 minute walk from Ueno station! Look it up!

fun you got to go to tokyo, i'm leaving from Portland airport and going on a 10hr flight too. Did you feel sick for a bit while you were their? So did you also have fun?

Hey I just got back from Tokyo yesterday. Holy crap it was hot! I think Akihabara was my favorite neighborhood, but I liked Ueno Park too.
