  • At about 1:21, Gary says "Oh, they're real lovers." But my dictionary says 'lover' means 'a partner in a sexual relationship outside marriage' or '(often in compounds) a person who likes or enjoys a particular thing'.

I don't know how I should understand his remark.

I hope anyone can explain this to me.

  • @GloriaJo The "joke" is in June's italian ancestry as described by her husband. "Real lovers" becomes a sort of joke for husband and wife getting old together. It's "cute" some people would say. Hard to explain the nuance!

  • 4:32 'deplorable' ? I am Italian and never been deplorable in any ways.

Maybe he didn't like the pizza.

anyways, whatever the statements, these are just a lot of dumb generalizations. There's good people and bad people everywhere, no matter where they come from.

How can you judge a nationality, basing your impressions on your neighbours?

People should never be judged on the basis of generalizations drawn from a single personal experience.

  • @luigiperso Well said!

  • @realenglish1 , I think I'd like to correct my last statement :' People should never be judged on the basis of generalizations drawn from a single personal experience. ''

I meant people as a nationality. But of course, if one finds an unlikeable person, by all means avoid it. Still, I think it can be dangerous to box people into stereotypes. One could, on the basis of that, preclude for example the possibility to get a great friend or lover. Who knows. All I mean is to try to be rational.

  • @luigiperso - Again, I agree completely.

But I made this video just for eliciting adjective vocabulary for people learning English.

I made the same video for the Americans, British, Germans, and French. The best stereotypes were given to the Italians. The British got the worst remarks.

  • this was a very interesting video. The guy that kept saying that Italians don't know where they're going or what government they want seemed bitter about something, haha.

  • These interview are too much politically correct.

  • i'd give the quick tempers to the calabrese, napolitans and sicilians :)
