Kenya's ocean waters are home to five out of the world's eight species of turtles. All are classified as either endangered or critically endangered, and are threatened by poaching, fishing nets, development and pollution. The conservation groups Watamu Turtle Watch, Funzi Island Turtle Club and Kenya Sea Turtle Conservation Committeeare striving to protect the turtles in Kenya.
