The day of Jan 7, 2013 will be remembered in the pages of history for years to come. The time 10.30 am, venue -- science city, Kolkata, auditorium packed with dignitaries from different walks of life and amongst them esteemed jury members with the likes of Amol Palekar, leading persona of avant garde theatre in India, actor, director; Dr Saroj Ghose, Subhash R.Joshi, Usha Raman, Vivekanand Apte and Arvind C. Ranade amongst others. The picture perfect setting and an announcement with claps, which would echo in the ears of Reliance team and inspire them to make more such award winning and path breaking animated movies, "And the Golden Beaver Award- goes to... 'An Apple' in the category of Science & Technology, produced by Reliance Animation."
The movie made in the year 2011 was directed by John Benedict Julius with the help and assistance from Reliance team, Pune and is based on simple concept of facts and fiction. It is to relate a discovery of facts (Sir Issac Newton's law of gravity) with a fiction story (discovery of a juice making machine). The idea is to compare the two and realize that man's creation can never be big or equated with facts of nature, however unique it may seem, rewarded or unrewarded then.
It is in this simplicity of theme that it was appreciated in many a film festival and applauded for its efforts.
