A film by Gregory Pearse and Maria Wagner, the heart of which is an interview with the great Polish director Krzysztof Zanussi conducted on February 5, 2007 at Rice University, Houston, Texas. Dr. Zanussi, who was a close friend of Andrei Tarkovsky, discloses for the first time an astonishing request Tarkovsky made before his death.

  • the music at the begining is beautiful, could you tell us, what it is? Thanks

  • The opening music for our logo with the swans is Rachmaninov's "Prelude No.1 in F Sharp minor, Op.23". The opening music for the film-interview is J. S. Bach's "Concerto for Piano in F minor, BMV 1056".

  • I will personally remember and will tarkovsky for his amazing and inspiring piece of art that will live forever...i dont believe in sin only in beautiful light and god of compassion which tarkovsky touched with his art..i am sure Mr Zanussi would have many amazing things to also say about Andrei and we should focus in the beauty and positiveness

  • True spirituality does not mean walking through life with rosy glasses on. Confronting sin and evil within ourselves (instead of pretending they don't exist) is the true way to the Light. Zanussi and Tarkovsky both know this. That's why their films continue to inspire and empower.

  • Thanks, do you have the transript of this interview?

  • Sorry, we do not. But you have our permission to transcribe it, if you would like.

    Best wishes,

  • It is quite interesting how this really impressive person, educated on moral and ethical values, rationalism, physicist and philosopher, as being in opposition to religious thought (and after that movie director) is so deeply set in religious beliefs: "we are already saved", "we must admit our imperfection" etc...

  • quality :-) he seems like a lovely man but he is not as insightfull or clever as tarkovsky. People like Terence Davies, Michael Haneke, Abbas Kiarostami, Robert Bresson and Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Luis Bunuel are in the same league in every way.

  • i agree that editing has made video/television/movies practically unwatchable and terribly monotonous.

  • Thank you
