In the culture of Islam there is no dating, no courtship period. Most girls are assigned to a husband of her father's choosing, in a contract that is often agreed before the child is old enough to speak. What does she need to "attract" someone for? At the end of the day her body belongs to her husband. The burqa states quite clearly that her face, her identity BELONGS to him. That is NOT the same as a Western women prettying herself up with lipstick for a night out.

This comparision is bullshit. Western women are not "prisoners" dependent on the attraction of men. Attraction between the sexes is necessary, it's what makes the world go round. Are you saying that men in the West don't take great care to look attractive for women? They shave, style their hair, wear cologne and a snappy shirt...it is expected to present yourself in the best way you can. Some women take it to extremes certainly, but this is no counter argument to support the burqa.

@AlbortRoss Im against it myself, I think that we all should be allowed to express ourseves as we feel appropiate.
Two interesting facts: 1 is the result of surveys that when women dress up its to impress other women they see as rivals, not for men as such, and the other is that those who wear excess make up are often trying to hide behind it, false face, brave face if you will, not the decoration of joy commonly presented as.
Just two studies from the press. Interesting. Theres 2 sides to it!

@Elpapi454 dont be ridiculous, its just a way for muslim men to demean and control thwir women. its good its banned.
I work in London and I see a lot of burqa's and girls in veils. I would say a good 80% of these girls wear A LOT of eye make up. They still are concerned with looking good.

A lot of your comments are valid, the point Im trying to make is that we in our own way can force women to be what men want them to be as opposed to what they want to be themselves by the media portrayal of what is desirable by men, hence the ubersexification of the youth, etc in todays world.
How else does the likes of Playboy get a feminist world to accept the notion that being part of a bordello / harem for an old man as something to be cool?
Is that as bad as the burqa?
