@conjostudios no excuse. Even if he trains firefighters he shouldn't be standing on a roof with smoke billowing out of it wit his mas off. Nice attempt to defend him though

@conjostudios sorry, I didn't know you two were that close... Anyway, I've seen a lot of big city & suburban FF's injured, from doing the same thing. Most of our "roofies" don't pack up at all (big mistake). I made those same mistakes, as a young FF... Question: do you want to live, to see your grandchildren, or live until 55-60 years old? Old-school FF's are dying off at 50-60 years old (too young). At a fire, if you're near it, pack-up, and be ready for anything. Stay safe...

@ffjsb I agree that if he was cutting with out a muzzle on, he was in the wrong. The point that I'm trying to make is that we judge our brothers too quickly here. As to "letting yourself get cut off", like I said, things happen in the field that we have no control over. We all plan and train as much as we can, but fires have their own agenda. And I hope he learned as much as he could from his experience as well.

@MrTyler1022 You don't have to know the whole story to know he should've had his mask on when he cut the vent hole. If he let himself get cut off from a safe exit, he wasn't planning ahead. Hopefully he will teach his students not to do what he did. Hopefully he will use this as a learning experience.

Good job venting, boys. Of course as any firefighter knows, there is no "normal" or "standard". Things happen in the field that we just cant explain. I fully believe that this man had saw dust in his mask. Of course he had to get to clean air to put his mask back on, and I applaud him for taking the time to do so before he stepped to his left, through that angry looking smoke, to get off the roof. You armchair heros watch 32 seconds of video and you think you know the story. Shut the hell up.

Not a good seal, if he got saw dust in his mask. I see half-a-dozen safer areas for him to replace his mask. Also, most fire departments use positive pressure air tank/masks... How did he get "saw-dust" in his mask?

@detroitfirefighter Thanks Detroit... I'll let him know you were his angel that day, since it's obvious you were there, and knew the exact location for him to replace his mask. It's so much easier being a couch quarterback than being on the field. If you ever come to Emmitsburg, I can arrange for you to meet this guy. He's only one of the best FF trainers in the area, maybe then he can explain.
