N for No-more Piccadilly Cafe. Yes, it's gawn, the caff, the building, even the block has been razed to the ground due to Westminster's Development Plans. The area's a buzz with building and change.
Not entirely convinced the New Piccadilly Cafe ever had a hey-day but it had remained the same since the 1950s in a Lady Haversham sorta way - including dust. Always to be the bridesmaid to better known caffs of the era it did survive an awful long time. Wot did for it was a well-earned retirement, re-development & increased rents.
Memory is a fickle thing eventually fading to a pleasant glow of remembrance. But! Not when it comes to the lavatory. The NPC had the worse toilet in the world and unisex too! Only second to the Colony's loo, which I don't miss either. The Colony Club was a famous private members club in Soho since the 50s now also defunct. It had the same down-at-heel seedy look with I feel certain a ton of dust knocking about too. Snap! And Gawn with the Wind!
My Heavens! I didn't know ANY of that! cx
