Today has been a very solid day for me, but a real challenge for Jenny. She hasn't been having regular bowel movements, as she doesn't drink enough water (let her know!!), and so she's been doing regular enemas.

When I first heard the word enema, it was immediately impressed into my mind that this was a dirty word, a shameful word, an embarrassing word. Pop culture reinforced this idea, as every joke in every movie about an enema always made it seem like the worst possible thing that can happen to you.

This cleanse is really opening my eyes to how much shame we have in regards to our body and its functions. Shitting is incredibly natural. 100% of the healthy population does this thing every single day, but we look it behind doors. Even in loft space where the bedroom is exposed, it is considered essential to have a walled-in bathroom. This is simply a cultural choice, not a fact of human existence.

It is just as possibly that food preparation could be considered disgusting, and kitchens would be walled in and no one could barge in on you while you are cooking (ewww gross the kids would say).

Anyway, the body is a donut. You know that? There is an opening in the mouth and an opening in the butt and a tube that runs all the way from one to the other. We are, in fact, quite hollow. So cleansing the inside is really a misnomer. We are in fact cleansing a different part of our outside.

Strange to consider, but hard to argue with!

Anyway, the mucoid plaque continues to come out and the emotional releases continue to occur. It is amazing that we don't really find ourselves hungry whatsoever. I can already say that I highly recommend this activity of cleansing. It feels right and it just seems like a good thing to do for yourself. It gives you a new appreciation of the fact that you are a human, alive in a body, on a rock, traveling through outer (and inner) space, and that while this is incredibly magical, it's also incredibly physical!

OH PHYSICAL REALITY WHAT A STRANGE MISTRESS YOU ARE!

We love you!

  • I just loved how you talk about your detox experience. I agree with you, it is a spiritual and psychological journey. You get to know, accept, respect and love your body. Part of this building and retention inside is due to stress and emotional imbalance. I have never had an enema but I am glad to hear the level of relief you felt. You guys rock!!

  • Much encouragement to you for your cleansing journey!

  • Fecal matter that exits (or even stays in the bowel) is not a part of your body as you stated. Only those nutrients that are absorbed into your blood and used for body processes have become part of your BODY. This would even include the toxins that are generated within the bowel due to fecal matter which is bonded to the lining of the bowel (or gut) and absorbed into the bloodstream. I commend your efforts to regain healthy gut function, improve wellness, and willingness to share candidly.

  • umm.... thas good
