The biggest, most expensive and advanced machine in the world, and you still have a mechanic with a big belly telling you where it's gone wrong. Brilliant! =D

0_o ... but it does exist.

The estimation is that a black hole would move the width of a proton before being evaporated by quantum fluctuation as far as I heard.
The evaporation of Black holes due to quatum fluctuations is one of Hawkin's top field of expertise. He is one of the world's top capacities on black holes and quantum gravity. If he says it is save, I think we can trust him on that.

not much of a danger..there is one, but there are dangers with all experiments... this is the biggest experiment man has ever created, with $8 billion and over thousands of physicists... it could revoltuionize science as we know it, because it could give us a look at what particles did after or before the big bang theory,(earth's and particles creation) i dont think its even going to do much of anything, to tell you truth, it would be some what of a miracle if they somehow destroyed the earth

What I heard from an interview with Prof. Hawkins is that
there is an possibility that black holes will be created but they will be so small that after a very short time they will collaps.

Hey people.I heard about this experiment few days ago and i dont know much about it.I heard that minor black holes can be made and that they are dangerous for the planet.I dont know much I am just looking for explanation from you guys who know more about the experiment.I mean when there is a danger for all the planet why do they do this?Regards.

Yep, and they are also the ones telling the public not to worry about anything getting out of control because it's not possible.

well the you read wrong....scientist have been playing with 1K tenperatures for ages now....
So it broke due to something a simple as mechanical stress caused by the core tube shrinking more than estimated at low temperatures? Did I understand that right?

Yes

just throwing this out there, these scientists tell us "we are creating a black hole, but dont worry, its in a controlled environment" and this happens? FizzyMcPhysics<--agreed, i dont even know what to say

Actually there were no collisions when they sent a beam around the ring, so all the news reports are mistaken to say its a risk on this particular day
