Remember, ancient people like to record things they see interesting, a giant turtle is more likely to exist than a dragon. Because their artistic skills were not as developed as the modern standards, they used very simple shapes to record their findings' general information (big, four legged, one head, etc)

@avis138 They are all pretty shallow. Around 10-15m if my memory serves me right.
