In June 2007 Sebastian and I took a road trip from Toba, Japan to Mount Fuji in Shizuoka Ken. We set out with our mountain bikes to climb the volcano from it's base, 3,776 vertical meters or approximately 15 kilometers on an incline from our destination.
Over the course of 16 hours we climbed Fuji on our bikes or with our bikes strapped to our packs, depending on the terrain.
The temperature ranged from 40 degrees Celsius at the bottom of Fuji, to -5 degrees Celsius as we neared the summit with winds upwards of 50 kph.
We had the wonderful opportunity to look at Tokyo ablaze with lights over the course of the evening and hours later we watched the sun rise over the colossal metropolitan.
The ride down took about 2 hours (compared with 16 hours up) and consisted of terrain the varied from volcanic rock to cross country trail and road.
Enjoy!
Atta boy Chris. Hard to sum up an entire days ride into under 4 minutes eh? Takes a bit of the epic out doesn't it?
Looks like a helluva sweet ride!
