Palestinian Grand Mufti shocks Israel: Fatah's Muhammad Hussein urges killing Jews, Damascus Gate

Israeli officials are expressing grave concern over the recent remarks made by the Palestinian Authority's top cleric, Sheikh Muhammad Ahmad Hussein, who is the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem. At a Fatah event, Sheikh Hussein recited an ancient religious text which described Muslims being mandated to kill Jews in an end-of-days struggle. The resurrection, he told the crowd, will not come until you fight the Jews. Israeli officials learned about the speech because it was broadcast on Palestinian state television and discovered by a watchdog group.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the speech "heinous" and "chilling." He said while many governments raise their voices when a new home is built in Gilo or Ramot, few are speaking out now when the Palestinian mufti calls for Jews to be killed simply because they are Jews. We talked to foriegn ministry official Lior Ben Dor. Here's what he had to say, "When such a declaration is advanced in the Palestinian Authority and broadcast on Palestinian television, it raises serious questions as to the readiness of the Palestinian people and their leaders to live in peace with Israel, the Jewish state."
