According biography published these days by Pascale Fautrier in French, Chopin (aka Pichon) wrote it between 14 and 15 years old , which is amazing. 2010 is Chopin 's year !

Yea I've read some places that he wrote this in 1822 also. It is unbelievable that Chopin was capable of this kind of composition at 12.

I'm trying to play this piece right now, but it is very challenging. I am beginning learning the 3rd section, but I still struggle with the descending chromatic broken octave scale in the 1rst and 2nd sections, 1-2-1-5, 1-2-1-5, ugh...I absolutely love Chopin, Ashkenazy, and this piece. Thank you for posting!

Simply sublime playing by Ashkenazy: gorgeous tone, technical mastery, and supreme musicality. Bravo! I love this piece; several of Chopin's unpublished works in his lifetime surely deserve the attention they are now receiving, and this is one of the best examples.

@billyguns2 yes it certainly is a unique piece....i can see how it would not have met with public acceptance...since it's in such difficult key for most practical musicians and music lovers to properly attach themselves to.

This polonaise doesn't get enough attention. Heroic is very good, but so is this one. When did Chopin write this piece? Because I think I read that he wrote it in 1824, making Chopin 14-ish (which would be very impressive)

According to wikipedia he wrote this piece in 1822 for Madame Du-Pont.
But was released to the public posthumously.
Thanks for the comment!
